Sport is one activity that has significant result for
people with Down Syndrome. It improves their weak muscle tone and
health in general. They become more alert and generally improve their
intelligence as well as curb their frustation and stress.
The British International School has given tremendous
support to the existence of ISDI by especially include ISDI in their
after school program of sports such as their annual World Run Day and
Biathlon.
International achievements in sports: 2003 - Two boys
of ISDI were chosen by Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna) to
participate and represent Indonesia in the Special Olympics World
Summer Games XI in Dublin, Ireland, the first ever the games were
held outside the USA since 1963.
National achievements: 2001 - Gold, silver, and bronze
medals in athletics in PORCADA (regional games for the handicap).
2002 - Gold, Silver and bronze medals in athletics in PORCADA and
PORCANAS (nasional games for the handicap). 2004 - Gold and silver
medals in athletics in PORCADA. 2005 - Gold, silver and bronze in
swimming in PORCADA.

Fine arts - ISDI is
privileged to be working together with Sanggar Cissie, who not only
introduces colors and creation to children with Down Syndrome, but
teaching them concentration and expressing their "self"
through arts.
International achievements in fine arts: 2004 - Gold medal in the 10
years under catergory in Rome, Italy. 2005 - Merit awards at The Hans
Christian Andersen Bicentennial in Iran. 2005 - Participate in
drawing competition in India, Egypt, Washington - USA, Japan.
National achievements in fine arts: 2004 - Exhibit in the annual
Japan Foundation drawing competition. 2005 - Win first, second and
third place in special category at the TK Al-Azhar Kemang Pratama,
Bekasi drawing competition. 2005 - Second place at the Visual Arts
competition for special children/young adults at Kemang Training
Center, South Jakarta.
Floral
arrangements – A young girl named Intan was awarded
fourth place in the final selection competition for the Abilympics in
India (Olympics for handicap people in the non-sports ability
category) in the art of floral arrangements.
Dances
- For those who are more into the finer side of the activity, ISDI
has been giving dance lessons to accommodate their hidden talents and
to boost their self esteem.
Music
- Music is an all-time favorite for all. It also soothes the nerves
and at the same time provides ways of improving the mind.
Many of ISDI's children and young adults are taking music lessons at
Kawai Music since they open a special class for special people.
At the moment ISDI is privileged to be working together with Saung
Udjo from Bandung, West Java in giving special training for musical
instrument the "Angklung" - by no means an easy way of team
work. But it teaches the children total concentration which in the
long run will improves their mind and prevents the deterioration of
the function of the brain.

We believe
that even though we are special, but we belong to the community and
therefore we must also make some contribution back to the community
whenever the chance came. Here, we are privilege to be part of a
network team distributing wheel chairs donated by The Wheel Chair
Foundation - USA to the needy of the under privilege people.

ISDI
provides trainings in simpe administration for office work or and
other related work in the office to prepare them for future jobs in
life skills. Even though they are slow, but somehow they managed to
finish their job well and have improve as time pass by in their self
discipline, self esteem, responsible, acquired a good habit of
working attitude, at the same time they also give the working place a
feeling of enjoyment.
